Counting for the Local Level Government [LLG] elections in Jiwaka Province begins today under strict supervision, with officials warned not to leak results as authorities move to prevent election-related violence.

Provincial Election Manager Rossie Pandihau confirmed that counting will proceed for eight LLGs, excluding Anglimp and Kuna-Komun, which were suspended by Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai following petitions, protests, and disputes over the proclamation of new wards.

Pandihau said all counting officials completed their training over the weekend and are ready to begin.

“Counting is scheduled for six days, and we expect to declare ward members within that period,” she said.
“Officials are strictly warned not to leak tally information to candidates or supporters, as this could trigger unrest.”

Counting will be held at two venues in Banz for Kudjip, Banz, Nondugl, Kol, Tapibuka, and Koinambe LLGs, and Minj Station for Minj and Kambia LLG.

She said the process will be closely monitored and urged the public and supporters to remain calm as counting progresses.

“We aim to complete all counting by the end of this week and declare the winning candidates promptly,” Pandihau added.

The Jiwaka Provincial Election Office has assured that security forces are on the ground to maintain order throughout the counting period.
