History and hope touched down in Port Moresby this afternoon as the Vanuatu men’s and women’s national football teams arrived for the 2025 Melanesian Spearhead Group Prime Ministers Cup.

Greeted by a colourful singsing group and emotional Nivan supporters, the Vanuatu contingent received a fitting Melanesian welcome, signaling the start of what promises to be a defining campaign for the island nation.

For the first time, the MSG Cup will feature a women’s competition, and Vanuatu’s head coach Yalou Robert says her players are determined to make their mark on regional football history.

“We know we’re up against some of the best in Melanesia, but we’ve prepared well and we’ll let our football do the talking,” Robert said.

The Vanuatu women’s side faces a quick turnaround, taking on PNG Gold in their opening match on Monday — a tough start against one of the tournament favourites.

Despite that, Coach Robert says the team’s spirit and preparation give them confidence to challenge the region’s powerhouses.

“We're here to represent our people and show that Vanuatu belongs on this stage.”

With pride, purpose, and plenty of passion, Team Vanuatu enters Port Moresby ready to make history and inspire a new generation of Melanesian footballers.
