Faith, focus and perseverance: Goroka secondary’s top students shine
Two students have risen above personal challenges and fierce academic competition to claim the prestigious Asu Amiti Award as the top male and female graduates at Goroka Secondary School’s 26th Grade 12 graduation.
Among 630 graduating students, 18-year-olds Bob Negio from Kama and Kambue Keren from Unggai Bena stood out for their unwavering commitment to studies, earning both the dux awards and the coveted Asu Amiti honors.
Male student Negio, who has endured the profound loss of his grandparents, said his faith and consistent effort were key to his success.
“My secret for topping GSS and achieving the Asu Amiti Award is putting God first and setting my priorities right,” he said. “Attend classes, do your homework, stay focused, and be consistent. It was through God, hard work, and commitment that I have reached this point.”
Miss Keren, the award represents the fulfillment of a long-held dream.
“This achievement means a lot to my family and me,” she said. “Despite the challenges this year, self-discipline, sacrifice, and determination helped me reach my goal. I am truly speechless to have received this award.”
Their success story highlights not just academic excellence, but resilience, discipline, and the power of personal determination, a message that inspires peers and younger students to pursue their goals despite obstacles.
The Asu Amiti Awards continue to recognize students who excel academically while demonstrating character, commitment, and leadership, cementing Goroka Secondary School’s reputation as a center for excellence in Eastern Highlands Province.
