Over 7,000 Bougainville households receive solar power through community project

More than 7,000 households across Bougainville now have access to clean and affordable lighting.
The solar lighting kits were distributed under the Bougainville Partnership’s Community Government Institutional Strengthening Project [CGISP].
The project, jointly funded by the Australian and New Zealand Governments in partnership with the Autonomous Bougainville Government, extended support even to remote communities in the Atolls region.
The CGISP empowers Community Government leaders to deliver priority development projects that address real community needs.

With training provided under the program, local governments have implemented vital infrastructure including water collection sheds, ventilated pit toilets, market structures, assembly areas, and now solar lighting.
This initiative highlights the ongoing commitment of development partners to support Bougainville’s growth and sustainability.
