Over 38,000 grade 12 students sit for written expression exam

More than 38,000 students nationwide sat for the Grade 12 Written Expression Examination, today.
These students are from the 238 Secondary Schools including the six National Schools of Excellence.
Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra in a statement said the exam booklets were safely distributed to schools on July 28, ahead of the assessment.
“The Written Expression Exam is the first national exam for Grade 12 this year, and it holds equal importance to the other exams that follow later in October,” Dr. Kombra said.
He also highlighted the Department’s commitment to maintaining exam integrity by implementing tight security and urged teachers and students to respect examination protocols.
NBC Online visited Waigani Christian Academy School in the Nation's Capital and witnessed about 287 grade 12 students sitting for their exam under the supervision of both internal and external invigilators.
School Principal Abakure Kaupa says students were well prepared through remedials and extra classes to ensure they score better grades in their examination results.
Meanwhile, the Education Secretary has issued a stern warning against cheating, revealing that penalties include the withholding of certificates, dismissal of teachers, and suspension of schools for three years.
Marking of the Written Expression papers will occur in Port Moresby from August 17 to 23.
