ADCL takes control of K1.8m district assets

Alotau District has officially handed over K1.8 million worth of assets to its newly formed business arm, Alotau District Corporation Limited [ADCL], as part of efforts to drive local economic growth.
Established in 2023, ADCL has completed its registration with the Investment Promotion Authority [IPA], secured a Tax Identification Number [TIN], and opened operational accounts, enabling the company to begin managing commercial activities for the district.
"We have two boats, A3 and A1, that are currently operated by the DDA," Alotau District Administrator Wilson Hillary said.
"And the coffee huller, whose job is to remove the husk of the coffee parchments and then sell it to exporters.
"We are also buying coffee already, so whatever district has already bought will be transfered to the company."
District Development Authority [DDA] officials confirmed that two district-operated boats, A3 and A1, along with a coffee huller used to process parchment coffee for exporters, have been transferred to the corporation. Coffee already purchased by the district will also be shifted under ADCL’s management.
The corporation has been tasked with building community-focused, commercially sustainable ventures and forging strategic partnerships to boost small-to-medium enterprises [SMEs] across key industries. The goal is to strengthen market access and create long-term livelihood opportunities for local communities.
