Kundiawa town without water supply

Public institutions, residential areas and Hospital in Kundiawa town of Simbu will go without water for some time due to the continous issue between the landowners and government over the payment for the land where the water source is located.
Plaintiff and the Chirman of the landowner group, Samuel Kupo, in a statement released today, stated that the Kundiawa water supply officially shut down for an indefinite period effective immediately
He said this action has become necessary due to unresolved landowner issues, which must be addressed before normal water services can resume.

"Be assured that this decision was not made lightly or without due consideration. It follows extensive discussions and attempts to resolve the matter amicably," he said.
Mr Kupo said there are so many underlying and connecting issues in play, and this is only a temporary measure of action, however, will depend on the response of the Simbu Provincial Government and water PNG.
"We've avoided doing this for the last 20 years, and today we take this action so that our concern must be adress before normal water services can resume in Kundiawa," he said.
On behalf of the landowners, Kupo assured the residents of Kundiawa, businesses, and the hospital that they are committed to resolving these issues. Once agreements are reached, the water supply will resume.
This situation has caused concern for various sectors, including the hospital, government institutions, and business houses.
Michel Gaima, a concerned resident, said the lack of water supply is particularly concerning for the hospital, which relies heavily on a consistent water supply for its operations.
Simbu Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang is also aware of it and urged the relevant authorities to solve the matter then denying it as the people would suffer from health hazards that could be brought about if the water supply shut down is prolonged.
Several attempts made to get the comments from the Provincial Government and Water PNG were unsuccessful.
