Milne Bay building board inspects K76 million Gurney airport upgrade

The Milne Bay Provincial Building Board recently conducted inspections at the K76 million Gurney Airport upgrade project site.
The board, tasked with ensuring that all construction activities comply with the Building Regulations Act, carried out the visit to verify whether work were progressing according to the approved design plans initially submitted.
Chairman of the building board, Gerard Ahuta, confirmed that they were satisfied with the progress so far, stating that everything appeared to be in order at this stage.
The inspection covered several key areas of the project, including the new National Airports Corporation [NAC] staff housing compound, the temporary terminal building, current apron works, and construction activities at the new Gurney Airport terminal.
The project is being undertaken by China Railway Construction and Engineering Group, one of five projects in the second phase of the Civil Aviation Development Investment Program [CADIP 2], managed by NAC and funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The upgraded airport is expected to be completed and delivered to the people of Milne Bay by mid-2026.
