Kikori District commissions MV IBK to improve sea travel and service access

The people of Kikori District will no longer travel in dinghies to and from Port Moresby for access to services.
This was made possible through the purchasing of MV IBK Landing Craft Barge by the Kikori District Development Authority under the leadership of Kikori MP and Provincial and Local Level Government Soroi Eoe.
Prime Minister James Marape praised Kikori district and the Gulf Provincial Government for the achievement.
Marape says the ship must be a boat and not just a service boat.
Marape adds an economic boost for the people of the Gulf and country as a whole.
Minister Eoe described Sea travelling as a nightmare, the ship will now enable the people to travel, access to services and create business opportunities for the people .
Finance Minister and Kerema MP Thomas Opa who spoke on behalf of Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta reiterated that many lives were lost at sea.
Opa emphasized that it was not easy acquiring this barge but that the ship now saves lives and called on the people to use it in the right manner to generate revenue.
MV IBK is 48 meters in length and 9 meters in width. It has 82 passenger seats on board. Also on board, a chiller to preserve produce when travelling to and from Gulf and Port Moresby.
