UOG student found dead

The Criminal Investigation Division in Goroka, EHP have started investigations into the death of the young woman (NBC News)

A female student from the University of Goroka was found dead in her rental accommodation at Okiufa Village, near the university, on Monday night.

Eastern Highlands police say the incident reportedly followed a breakup conversation with her partner, who is currently employed by a commercial bank in West Sepik Province.

Eastern Higland's Province CID Homicide Section OIC Detective First Constable Dake Monda said it was around 7pm, that the young woman was found hanging from the ceiling of her room.

Detective Monda said her mobile phone contained exchange of messages with her partner and a photo of herself hanging before she died.

"She was experiencing a full-blown crisis following a breakup conversation with her boyfriend over WhatsApp," Detective Monda said.

He said the family of the deceased have been notified and the body is currently at the Glenrowan Funeral Home in Goroka.

Police have registered the case and have started investigations into the incident.

The deceased, 24 from Nuku District in Sandaun, West Sepik Province was in her second year of studies in Business Accounting.
