Female students of Nawae High School attacked

Police are working with the surrounding communities of Nawaeb to apprehend youths who attacked female students of Nawaeb High School in the Morobe province.

Morobe Provincial Police Commander [PPC], Superintendent Jacob Singura in a statement confirmed that around 7-8pm last night, youths from the surrounding community entered the female dormitory causing them harm.

Police officers were this morning immediately tasked by PPC Singura to go to the school and give assurance to the school management and parents that they would investigate the matter.

The surrounding communities have been urged to identify the youths and assist police in surrendering those youths involved.

“We want to make sure there is rule of law, and it must be respected by everyone. Those students should also be respected and allow them to live and study in a peaceful and safe environment to get an education.

“I will again attend the incident today for further follow-up, as I have not confirmed the number of female students attacked.

“I appeal to the people particularly the surrounding communities to have respect for the learning institutions and make the learning environment conducive for our children to get better education,” PPC Singura said.

He said the incident was unacceptable and concerning. He also urged everyone to help identify the youths involved so that police could apprehend them and bring them before the courts."
