It's been revealed that PNG and Solomon Islands have a high rate of corruption in the Pacific Region.

This is due to the weak system in place to fight corruption.

Teddy Winn, a PHD candidate from the university of James Cook who conducts extensive research into the levels of corruption in the Pacific, pointed out in his presentation that PNG and Solomon Islands both Melanesian countries, have a high rate of corruption perception.

He also emphasizes the lack of proper data to track corrupt activities and access information.

Teddy highlighted corruption in vote buying, sexual extortion, and in PNGs. Public sector is problematic, and these are examples.

Teddy and his fellow researchers presented their findings on the level of corruption perception in the Pacific during the 2025 Pacific Update in Suva this week.

In the meantime, Prime Minister James Marape , in recent times, has come out on media and highlighted rot within PNGs Public Sector and has instituted an investigation into the sector.

The outcome of which is yet to be made known.
