Stop N Shop celebrates 20 years of operations in PNG

One of the longest and oldest running supermarket Chains in the Nation's Capital, Stop and Shop, yesterday celebrated its 20 years of operation in the country.
This small but significant event was witnessed by staff and the general public.
Despite the many challenges it has faced over the years, including losing millions in the January 10th destruction a year ago, it was happy to celebrate its milestone achievements.
Stop N Shop is owned by the City Pharmacy Limited [CPL].
CPL General Manager of Marketing and Advertising, Christopher Lam, in delivering a brief history of how the company started on behalf of the founder and Chairman Sir Mahesh Patel who was not available said;
"Back then, the company started under the Steamship Trading Company in 1987. Stop N Shop opened its first SNS and CPL shop at Garden City, Boroko. It was only in 2005 when CPL completed the acquisition of the SNS Brand. So, at that time, we took on SNS Town, North Waigani, Rainbow, and Boroko and Waigani Central as well, where Hardware Haus is currently located".
Overtime, SNS established shops at Koki, Badili and Harbour city to meet the growing demands of the surrounding communities.
Earlier, the company had eight SNS shops in operation, but after losing several to the events of January 10, 2024, the company managed to rebuild and relocate, continuing its operations.
"We did lose North Waigani, Badili, and Harbour City, but with the quick action of the management and the team, we were able to reopen Badili, and we opened our new stores at Rainbow and eight mile," he said.
Lam indicated that there are further plans to expand their presence through the CPL brand nationwide, whilst having an SNS presence only in Port Moresby.
In addition, a special Stop & Shop 20th anniversary logo was unveiled and will be rolled out across its various store locations, accompanied by exciting promotions over the coming weeks."
