Hekari United FC tour Vanimo in hopes of inspiring next generation of footballers

Premier Soccer League champions Hekari United FC are currently in Vanimo, West Sepik to visit their academy and several schools with hopes to persuade young talents and students to engage in sports.
Hekari FC arrived in Vanimo yesterday with team manager Vonnie Kapi-Nato to visit the Vanimo Hekari Academy, including Dapu, Baro and Vanimo Primary Schools to making awareness to students to engage in sports activities to bring positive changes in societies.
Head of Vanimo Hekari Academy Mathew Hasor said they were excited to be visited by the premier team with manager, indicating their commitment in developing football in Wamo.
The academy was established by the club in June 2023 as a pathway to capture the next generation of football stars in West Sepik.
Hasor said the visit by Red Army side was not only to encourage students in sport especially football but also to foster good behaviour and values that may bring positive outcomes in the communities they live in.
The team will start their Academy visits today, where they will tour the three primary schools and engage the Hekari Academy players.
On Saturday, the Hekari United will have a friendly match with a team from Vanimo Soccer Association at the town oval as part of their preparations of the national competition.
The team leaves for Port Moresby on Monday morning.
