A total of 2,625 students from Morobe, enrolled across 60 institutions nationwide, have been selected as beneficiaries of the Morobe Provincial Government Gerson Solulu Scholarship [MPGGSS] following a thorough screening process.

Reverend Elimas Bakung, Chairman of the MPGGSS, announced that the successful candidates, recognized by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, met the necessary criteria out of 3,624 applicants who applied online.

Bakung further stated that students attending universities will receive their first payment soon, followed by students from colleges and institutes, with disbursements beginning next week.

During the screening process, the committee uncovered fake documents attached to some scholarship applications.

Clarifying the selection of non-Morobean applicants, Bakung explained that those selected had a long-standing connection to the province, such as parents who have lived and worked in Morobe for over 20 years.

Provincial Administrator Max Brutten highlighted that the Morobe Provincial Government has been supporting students for the past 25 years, with a budget allocation of K20 million for the scholarship program.

Brutten also called on institutions that owe outstanding balances to the Morobe Provincial Government to provide acquittals, noting that the Maritime College in Madang is the only institution that has provided these documents to date.

He added that while MPG continues to pay tuition fees, some universities and colleges have failed to report the amounts owed to the government after clearing students' school fee debts.

Both Bakung and Brutten expressed their gratitude to Morobe Governor Luther Wenge for his ongoing support of the scholarship, which continues to prioritize education in the province.

Students are encouraged to improve their academic standing, with a reminder to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 to remain eligible for the scholarship.
