DPLGA clarifies Mulitaka Resettlement Authority’s role

Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs [DPLGA] Secretary, Philip Leo visited the Maip Mulitaka Local Level Government in Porgera Paiela District last Friday to engage with ward members and village elders to address key issues and foster cooperation.
Secretary Leo informed the community about the establishment of the Mulitaka Resettlement Authority [MRA] by the National Government.
He explained that MRA was established under an Act of Parliament whereas, the LLG Special Purpose Authorities were established under the LLG Administration Act.
The clarification was to address misconceptions that led to numerous inquiries regarding employment opportunities with MRA.
"MRA's sole purpose is to facilitate the proper resettlement of those displaced by the devastating landslide last year," he said.
"It is a temporary initiative, designed to ensure swift and effective recovery and resettlement of affected communities."
He urged the leaders and people of Maip Mulitaka to extend their full understanding and cooperation to MRA, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
Mr Leo also spoke on the upcoming LLG Elections, outlining the roles and responsibilities of ward members.
He reminded ward members on the importance of their active participation and accountability as they are now receiving fortnightly renumeration.
He also highlighted the detrimental impacts of tribal fights, drug abuse and illicit activities on the region's progress.
"The rest of Papua New Guinea is not waiting for Enga, while we are consumed by internal conflicts, other provinces are advancing.
He concluded by challenging ward members and elders to step up and assume their leadership roles without hesitation or compromise.
"We all share the responsibility to build and ensure prosperity of our communities."
