A totally uncalled and inhuman act was done by group of armed men entered Watermark Estate at Baruni, Moresby North-West Electorate of National Capital District yesterday, got valuable items and kidnapped a woman, raped and murdered.

The commander of NCD and Central Provinces, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Benjamin Turi said more than twenty armed men who walked in to Watermark Estate tied up security guards, kidnapped a woman and walked away.

"They then raped her, cut her private parts, and then murdered her in the early hours of this morning at around 2am."

Turi said the police were alerted by the guards after they untied themselves. He said police responded, but they were late to save the woman.

He said police are investigating that, and his team will come up with a plan how they can address this incident.

"The settlers living around the Baruni area had been doing that to people living around there for a long time," Turi said.

He said many developments will be taking place along that section. All the settlers residing there must be evicted before developments take place.

"I strongly condemned that act, and I will make sure those involved will face the law. I want all witnesses who have information about that to come forward and assist the police investigators to fast track the investigation to make sure all are apprehended and charged accordingly. I know the incident happened this morning, and people living near the estate will know some of the men involved. I strongly condemned the act."

Commander Turi further added that whoever owns that piece of land needs to come forward and see him as soon as possible.
