Final preparations at Takubar Sports Stadium are underway for the Kutu Tabu [distribution of shell money] ceremony honoring the late former Prime Minister Sir Rabbie Namaliu, scheduled for tomorrow in Kokopo.

This significant event in the Tolai society of East New Britain highlights the customary obligations associated with the distribution of shell money as a token of appreciation for those who participated in Sir Rabbie's funeral and burial program.

The former Kokopo MP passed away on March 31, 2023, after a colorful political career that began with his first term in Parliament following the 1982 elections.

The late Sir Rabbie Namaliu was one of the pivotal leaders, alongside Sir Anthony Siaguru, Sir Mekere Morauta, and Sir Charles Lepani, who helped shape the foundation upon which Papua New Guinea was established.

The event honoring the former Kokopo MP will be attended by Prime Minister James Marape, who will serve as the keynote speaker, alongside former Deputy Prime Minister Sir Leo Dion, ENB governor Michael Marum and other distinguished guests. The occasion will be witnessed by residents from the four districts of East New Britain [ENB].

A moment of silence will be observed in honor of the late Sir Julius Chan, former Governor of New Ireland, before the program begins.

The event is expected to start at 9 AM and will be opened by Kokopo MP Ereman ToBaining, who will deliver the welcome remarks, followed by ritual performances.

Sir Dion, the leader of the Vunakua clan, and Prime Minister Marape will deliver the closing speeches.
