FOE Association’s New Classroom Project to Benefit Kutubu Community

The FOE Association is investing in the future of the Kutubu community by funding the construction of a new 4-in-1 double classroom at Tanuga Primary School in Lake Kutubu, Southern Highlands Province.
This new building will serve over 7,000 students in the area, providing better learning spaces for children in grades 3-8.
The project is a significant step towards improving education in Kutubu, and it aligns with the FOE Association’s long-term goal of empowering local communities through better infrastructure and resources.
FOE Chairman Johnny Yawari emphasized the importance of education in driving social development and said that all stakeholders, including the provincial government and districts, need to work together to build stronger educational pathways for the community.
In addition to the classroom, FOE Association will also funded the construction of staff houses at Tanuga and Gesege Primary Schools, as well as classrooms at Kikori High School and K-Point Community School.
The construction project is being carried out in partnership with Atlas Steel PNG, which will supply materials for the building.
The K304,245 cheque presented to Atlas Steel PNG on February 4th covers the cost of building materials for the classroom, excluding labor, transportation, and security, which will bring the total cost to around K1 million.
Yawari clarified that the funds were raised through the “Artists for A Cause” fundraising concert held at the Hilton Hotel in November 2023, and not from government agencies or donors.
Yawari also expressed his gratitude to partners like Defense Minister Dr. Billy Joseph and others who have supported the association’s efforts.
