Governor Rapa considering liquor ban in the province

Many escalating social issues and law and order problems in the country have been blamed on the high rate of liquor consumption.
Western Highlands governor Wai Rapa is set to introduce tough restrictions on the sale and consumption of liqour in the province to minimize the increasing law and order issues.
Rapa said the sale and consumption of liquor in the country has had an adverse effect on the daily lives of people as well as the progression of government development and services in the country.
The governor, after clear consideration of liquor as the root cause of law and order problems, vowed to battle with the sale and use of alcohol starting with his province.
Rapa said Western Highlands will set tougher restrictions on the sale of liquor, dealing with illegal taverns and unauthorized tucker shops distributing liquor in the province.
He said the provincial government has prioritized the law and order program with the imposition of strong regulations and penalties on the sale and consumption of liquor.
Governor Rapa reiterated that a potential provincial liquor ban would be eventually introduced to mitigate alcohol related problems in the province.
"Liquor must also be ban. Many times we have been lenient in putting up liqor restrictions and all this but now we as the government must be serious in dealing with law and order problem and put a total ban on alcohol in the province and the country if it means to," he said.
