Bulolo MP Sam Basil Junior has urgently called on the Police Department to address the alarming rise in criminal activities across Papua New Guinea and implement effective measures to curb lawlessness.
Speaking at a public forum in the heart of Bulolo town, organized by the Anti-Terrorism Awareness Committee, MP Basil emphasized the need for a united approach to tackle law and order challenges in the region.
Basil said tackling crime requires collaborative efforts from all sectors, commending the leaders from the eight wards of Bulolo Urban LLG, Mumeng, and Watut LLG for their commitment to fostering unity and reducing crime in their communities.
“Fighting lawlessness is not a task for the government alone; it requires a united effort from every individual, every leader, and every community,” Basil Jr said.
The MP also called on the Morobe Provincial Government to provide financial support for his plans to build two additional police barracks in Bulolo District.
He said one of the new barracks will house the Mobile Squad MS15, a specialized police unit designed to handle high-risk situations and maintain order in volatile areas.
The Anti-Terrorism Awareness Committee fully supported Basil’s call for external assistance, urging local communities to continue their collaborative efforts in addressing criminal activities.
Chairman Nelson Bito encouraged community members to report any criminal activity to the authorities or the committee, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in combating crime.
Bito also delivered a stern message to local youths involved in illicit activities, urging them to reconsider their actions.
"Our communities have united to put an end to crime and create a safer environment for everyone," he said.
“We call on our youth to leave behind destructive behaviors and join us in building a peaceful future.”
The public forum, attended by a diverse group of residents from Bulolo's surrounding areas, was a testament to the strong community desire to combat crime and ensure safety.
