A week-long Anti-Terrorism Awareness program in Bulolo District, Morobe Province, wrapped up with a successful public forum, marking a significant step in the community's efforts to address escalating criminal activities, particularly killings.
The program, which aimed to tackle rising violence, was inspired by the tragic recent killing of a Biwat youth by a mob of Garaina youths.
The incident prompted local leaders to come together to find lasting solutions, beginning with this crucial awareness initiative.
Nelson Bito, Chairman of the Anti-Terrorism Awareness Committee said this program successfully brought together all key stakeholders, signaling the effectiveness of the approach.
"This awareness initiative has unified our community and has proven to be a powerful tool in combating violence and lawlessness," Bito said.
He said plans to establish a working committee under the District Development Authority [DDA] resolution, aimed at collaborating closely with local police to maintain peace and security.
He added that DDA will fund quarterly awareness campaigns and a reservist program to further strengthen community policing efforts.
Bulolo MP Sam Basil Junior also attended the public forum on Friday and commended the committees for their proactive stance in reducing lawlessness.
"We must continue to work together as a community to eliminate violence and ensure the safety of our people," said Basil.
The forum, held on Friday, brought together residents from all eight wards of Bulolo Urban LLG, Mumeng LLG, and Watutu LLG, marking the end of a highly impactful week.
The overwhelming participation from the community demonstrated strong local support for the initiative and reinforced the need for continued collaboration in addressing crime and terrorism.
The program is seen as a crucial step in promoting peace and stability in Bulolo, with community leaders now working to implement long-term solutions to ensure a safer future for the district.
