Education secretary announces 2025 academic year resumption dates

The Secretary for Department of Education Dr. Uke Kombra, announced the key dates for the 2025 academic year, including term dates and holidays.

Dr. Kombra revealed that the Term 2 holiday will be one week, while Term 3 will have two weeks.

"The Government requested this change to ensure the 50th Golden Jubilee Independence celebrations in September take place during the school holidays, allowing students and teachers to participate without disrupting education," Dr. Kombra said.

The 2025 term dates and holidays are as follows:

Term 1: Monday, January 27 – Friday, April 04 [10 weeks], with holidays from April 7–11.

Term 2: Monday, April 14 – Friday, June 20 [10 weeks], with holidays from June 23–27.

Term 3: Monday, June 30 – Friday, September 5 [10 weeks], with holidays from September 8–19.

Term 4: Monday, September 22 – Friday, December 5 [11 weeks], with holidays from December 8 – January 23, 2026.

The Education Secretary said teachers, principals, and heads of all institutions will begin their duties on Monday, January 20, 2025, to prepare for the students’ return on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Dr. Kombra said teachers are expected to resume early for enrollment and lesson preparation.

He also emphasized that all teachers must complete the Resumption of Duty Summary Sheets [RoDSS] upon returning on January 20.

Meanwhile, teachers who have relocated or changed positions must also complete the EDB023 form and send both forms to the provincial education authorities.

Dr. Kombra advised all Provincial Education Advisors, principals, and heads of schools and institutions to take note of these important dates and use them to plan for the school year while awaiting the distribution of the printed education calendar.
