ExxonMobil leaders recently met with Prime Minister James Marape to discuss positioning Papua New Guinea as a leading producer of clean and green Liquified Natural Gas.
Whilst noting PNG’s negative carbon footprint, Marape said the country has the potential to market its LNG as a cleaner, more sustainable energy source globally.
“We discussed aligning our LNG production with PNG’s green credentials,” PM Marape stated.
“Our goal is to brand PNG as a green energy nation, producing LNG from a country with a negative carbon footprint. This will make our LNG more attractive to buyers in both spot - and long-term contracted markets.”
Prime Minister Marape expressed confidence in ExxonMobil’s continued leadership in PNG’s energy sector and the government’s support to further LNG developments.
“ExxonMobil’s senior leadership has assured me that PNG is a top priority in their global portfolio,” Marape said.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership to ensure the success of current and future LNG projects, which will significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth for decades to come.”
ExxonMobil also highlighted PNG’s strategic location and proximity to major markets, noting the country’s favorable position for energy exports.
