Marape urges renewed commitment to public service as nation anticipates 50th anniversary 

Prime Minister James Marape has urged public servants across Papua New Guinea to enhance their dedication to serving the nation as the country celebrates its 50th year of independence.

During a recent visit to his electorate in Tari-Pori, Marape commended frontline public servants, especially those who have left their home provinces to work in challenging areas like Hela. 

He highlighted the sacrifices of doctors, teachers, and other professionals who continue to serve under difficult conditions.

“These public servants are an inspiration,” Marape said. 

“They have chosen service over comfort and exemplify the true spirit of public service, which requires sacrifice and responsibility.”

Marape emphasized the need for greater support for frontline workers, including police, teachers, and health professionals. 

He called on senior officials in Waigani to provide the necessary resources and tools to these workers, breaking free from complacency.

Looking ahead to the public service dedication ceremony on January 10, the Prime Minister reminded all public servants that their salaries are funded by taxpayers and that they must work tirelessly to meet the country’s needs.

He also honored the contributions of past public servants, stating their work laid the foundation for the nation’s growth.

“True nation-building requires collective action.

“We must serve with pride and purpose, ensuring Papua New Guinea continues to grow and prosper for the next 50 years.

“The responsibility is ours — it starts with each of us,” he said.
