Work commences on Talasea district hospital

Construction works on the new level 4 Talasea District Hospital at Bola, commenced on Wednesday 18th December [yesterday].

The contractor, Pacific Development Contractors moved their machinery into the project site at the Bola Health Centre yesterday.

Member for Talasea, Freddie Reu Kumai witnessed the commencement of works after presenting a K7.1 million cheque to the contractor.

While presenting the cheque to PDC Managing Director, David Holmes, local MP Kumai clarified that the K7.1 million is purposely for the first and second phases of the project.

"K5 million Kina of this amount is from the National Government, which was presented by former Health Minister, Dr Lino Tom earlier this year when he visited the province," he said.

Meanwhile, the Talasea District Hospital construction works will cost a total of 30 million Kina.

The Talasea District Development Authority Board is also in the process of sourcing additional funding from the PNG Australia Incentive Fund as counterpart funding to successfully deliver the project.
