Seven street vendors arrested and charged by police for vending will appear in court to answer their charges.
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika confirmed that the seven who are now detained at Boroko Police Station are awaiting when they will appear in court.
He said they are also allowed on police bail and can bail if they have the amount of money to bail.
"I want to thank the police and wardens for arresting the vendors. We can't arrest them all at once but arresting one or two is good progress that will send message to others that police will still arrest them when they are caught. We want the city to be clean and safe," Sika said.
Met Supt Sika further thanked the wardens who had helped the police manning the bus stop that they were assigned to.
He said that with their presence with the police in the last three weeks, there had been some order in the bus stop. He said that with the arrest of these vendors, it now shows the public that police will continue their mandated role in the city.
He also added that with the festive season operation launched last week police officers are now out in numbers to polish the city.
