NCD Central Police Command launch festive operation

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Silva Sika, has launched Operation Silver Christmas and New Year to ensure safety and peace throughout the festive season in Port Moresby and Central Province.
Speaking during a combined NCD/Central Police Command parade at Unagi Oval, in the Gordon Suburb, Superintendent Sika outlined plans to tackle rising crime by increasing patrols in high-crime areas, forming specialized units, and engaging communities to address safety concerns.
He stressed professionalism, urging officers to serve with integrity, “the uniform you wear is a blessing. Use it to serve with responsibility and diligence.
He also emphasized the symbolic meaning of “Silver” in the operation’s name, describing it as a symbol of protection.
Sika acknowledged the challenges of urbanization, including theft and violent crimes, and thanked officers for their efforts throughout the year.
He also announced a Walk for Christmas and Peace program to raise awareness and called for police, public and media participation at 4am in Gerehu on Saturday.
The acting Assistant Commissioner for Police and Commander for NCD/Central police, Chief Superintendent Ben Turi also addressed the parade, urging officers to maintain public safety during the festive period.
"The festive season is also a time for reflection. Reflect in how you carry yourself, your grooming, how you've carried yourself, discipline, are you reliable?" Commander Turi encouraged police personnel.
Meantime, the Silver festive operation, which runs throughout the holidays, aims to create a peaceful and stable environment for all. Police in NCD and Central are working 24/7 to ensure safety during this critical period.
