Fuel rationing may affect flights during this festive season

Fuel rationing may cause disruptions to air travel in the country particularly during the busy Christmas season.
In a statement issued on Thursday, PNG Air warned the public about the potential impact of fuel rationing on its flights.
The airline stated that fuel shortages in outlying regions are putting pressure on its operations, making it difficult to maintain regular flight schedules.
“PNG Air is working on a solution and managing with the situation with best possible contingencies to get customers to loved ones over the Christmas break.
The airline also clarified that it will not be responsible for providing accommodation to passengers affected by flight cancellations or delays during this period.
"Delays and or canceled flights due to fuel restrictions and or weather are possible, these decisions, if made, will be in the best interest of passenger safety,” the statement read.
In addition to the fuel shortages, lawlessness in Southern Highlands Province has led to further disruptions.
PNG Air has been forced to suspend all flights to the Mendi route for the past month due to civil unrest in the area.
The airline explained that flights to the Southern Highlands provincial capital will remain suspended until the airline’s Safety and Risk team can confirm it is safe to resume operations.
