It was a marathon debate that started around 11 am and ended at 8:45 pm in the National Parliament during the Opposition Response to the 2025 National Budget on Wednesday, before the passage of the K28 Billion money plan.

Shadow Treasurer James Nomane who presented the Opposition's budget response highlighted among many things, a lack of fulfillment of this year's budget priority areas like health and education amidst the increasing lawlessness and inflation plaguing the country.

He's questioned the Government's security focused budget which has seen a massive slice of K703 million towards police, recounting previous years’ allocations between 2023 and 2024 totaling K1.14 billion with no tangible outcomes.

Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey when tabling the Appropriation Bills for parliament passage, “thanked all members of the house for a very robust response to the 2025 National Budget [and admitting] it is not easy to pass a budget for the national government.”

The Treasurer downplayed the Shadow Treasurer Nomane’s response to the country’s 2025 money plan.

“I was fairly disappointed with the response from the shadow treasurer mainly because very little of his speech was spent on the 2025 Budget, as I listened carefully to his response, we counted 11 subheadings and his response was of lies of failed budget, lies of printing money and lies of a budget crisis.

“I have to label the response today [Wednesday] a fake opposition budget response.”
