The "unprecedented escalation of law and order and crimes" across the country and particularly in the Enga province today prompted a series of questions from Wabag MP Dr Lino Tom.

Dr Tom, who directed his questions to Internal Security Minister Peter Tsiamalili Jnr told members of Parliament, it's unsafe to live and walk the streets of the country.

He says the "old and safe PNG has been lost" in search of a more complicated and utopian country.

The former health minister now in Opposition, questioned why no arrests have been made by police to date in Enga even after overwhelming evidence on social media of alleged perpetrators.

He queried whether the Government has lost its authority, power and legitimacy to effect arrests:

Dr. Tom also questioned why there is no liquor ban in places like Enga and the Government's strategies for the new year in addressing this out-of-control situation.

The Wabag MP read from two research papers from the United States and how they dealt with their law and order issues.

He cited four factors that helped in addressing these issues, and they include increasing the number of police personnel, arresting perpetrators, coming up with laws restricting illicit drugs, and legalizing abortion.
