Students charged for murder locked up at Boroko Cell

Fifteen grade-11 students of Iarowari Technical Secondary School in Central Province will face court for the alleged murder of a fellow grade 9 student.

Central Provincial Police commander Joseph Sale confirmed the transfer of the students on Monday to Boroko police station cells for processing.

The all-male students currently locked up at the Boroko cells have been charged with murder under section 300 of the Criminal Code Act.

The Central Province Police Commander Chief said each student has been charged with murder under the criminal code.

According to police, they will be kept at the Boroko cells to await their files to be prepared, with no confirmation if bail will be allowed.

The students are prime suspects in the death of late William Garo, a grade 9 student at Iarowari technically secondary school.

The 17 year old deceased from Gabagaba village in Rigo district was killed following initiation on 8th November at the school

Police allege the victim received several punches on his chest as part of the ritual initiation, which led to his death.

Medical reports are yet to confirm the actual cause of death.

Initially, 40 students were implicated in the allege murder.

Police released 25 of the suspects who were all grade 9 students, while the remaining 15 are prime suspects in this alleged murder.
