20 days Human Rights Activism Campaign launched for NGI region in Kimbe

Minister for Community Development, Religion and Youth, Jason Peter formally launched the 20 Days of Human Rights Activism Campaign for the New Guinea Islands in Kimbe today.
The minister launched the campaign in the presence of the Acting Secretary for the Department for Community Development and Religion, Jerry Ubase, Deputy Governor Joe Naipu, Provincial Administrator Leo Mapmani, and stakeholders.
Minister Peter also announced the release of 60 thousand Kina from the Department to assist with the hosting of activities to mark the 20-day campaign.
He says Human Rights issues and other breaches associated with Gender Based Violence are prevalent in the country.
Mr Peter explained that the campaign will ensure that people are made aware of their rights and what pathways they can take to seek redress if they are survivors of domestic violence and human rights violations.
He also outlined that the whole idea of launching the campaign in provinces like West New Britain is so that provinces can take ownership of gender-based violence and human rights violations happening locally.
Minister Peter says the Marape Rosso government remains committed to addressing human rights issues through the UN conventions which it is a signatory to.
