New Milne Bay Teachers College set for first intake

The Milne Bay Teachers College in Alotau District is preparing to welcome its first student intakes at the start of the 2025 academic year, following the approval of its operating license.
The college has been listed as an option for school leavers through the National Online Application System, marking a major milestone for education in the province.
Principal Philemon Entonio, who recently assumed his role, announced that recruitment has begun for faculty members to join him in launching the new institution.
“We will officially start by enrolling local students next year, 2025.”
Mr. Entonio said the teachers' college is committed to serving the Milne Bay community.
This new institution is a collaborative between the Milne Bay Provincial Government and the Catholic Church, which contributed land for the college’s establishment.
The recently appointed governing council, chaired by the provincial administrator, has started organizing subcommittees to lay the foundation for effective operations.
Initially, enrollment will be limited to students from within the province as the college establishes itself.
Milne Bay Teachers College will become the second tertiary institution in the province, joining St. Barnabas School of Nursing.
