A total of 31 inmates and two officers from CS Giligili Prison in Alotau have graduated after completing the first of Crossroads Prison Ministries Bible Correspondence study lessons.

The Bible Study with Crossroads Correspondence out of Australia aside from lessons, provides volunteer mentors, reviews lessons, answers students’ questions, and encourages them through personal letters.

Correctional Services [CS] Giligili Prison encourages its inmates to engage in this Bible Study as a rehabilitation activity.

Chief Superintendent of Giligili Prison, Ray Gideon said changing the perception of inmates in the prison through God’s work is very important.

“The Department is having difficulties in carrying out rehabilitation to inmates and the only rehabilitation program which I believe is the spiritual side and my challenge to those who graduated today to ensure you embrace the work of God.”

Among the 31 inmates, 2 female detainees and two warden officers undertook the first of 12 courses and were recognized for their patience, consistency and determination to do this course.

Alan Poyner from Crossroads Prison Ministries Australia encouraged the study as one that saw people come to know the living God through His word.

“It's wonderful that you've finished the first course. And I know many of you have already started on the next course, Survey of the Bible.

“So, you'll understand how it is, it can be a very simple book, and it can be complex, but you'll learn a lot about how to understand the Bible. And when you finish that course, you can go on to tier two. Tier two is all about learning how to live with Jesus as Lord,” Mr. Poyner said.

Each course contains up to 12 lessons and they're now looking forward to doing the next one.
