PNG Hunters are orchestrating a buoyant run which could see them record a third consecutive win in almost a decade when they face Ipswich Jets.

The last time Hunters recorded straight wins was in 2015 recording seven consecutive victories, and their later during the 2017 premiership run.

Head coach Paul Aiton told the media this week that the match on Saturday at the Santos National Football Stadium against the competition’s last placed team, will not be taken lightly.

“That’ll be great,” Aiton said, when asked if Hunters can make three wins on the trot.

“I guess we go back down to what we do each session.

“I’m sure the boys got a lot of confidence from last week’s game.”

Hunters halfback Joshua Lau has been outstanding since the opening rounds, making the Hostplus Cup team of the week, twice this season.

The little general said the Port Moresby based franchise confidence is high after back-to-back wins, against Blackhawks and Devil’s.

Lau said NFS has been the fortress for the 2017 premiers and a third win on the trot is not impossible.

“We didn’t start well at the beginning of the season but we’re now building good combinations on the edge and gaining confidence each week.

“We have respect for Jets and we don’t want to undermine them but focus on our process and structure.”

Hunters last played Jets in round 8 of 2023 with a resounding 40-28 victory.

With the match set for 3pm kick off, chances of the home side repeating last year’s outcome is possible in front of home fans.
