PNG’s basketballers confident ahead of final Pacific Games pool match against New Caledonia
PNG's men's basketball team have the Pacific Games qualifying finals in sight after securing two wins and one loss.
PNG take on New Caledonia in their final pool match at 1:30pm PNG time today (Wednesday).
They missed out on medals at the last games and the pressure will be on them to improve.
In their first pool match PNG thrashed hosts Solomon Islands 81-34.
They then put up a good challenge against the last Pacific Games gold medallist, Guam, going down 96-77.
Their third match against Samoa was a close one but the team managed to come out on top, registering their second win 87-72.
Coach Moi Muri says his team is looking forward to facing New Caledonia.
“We are confident with our game, with the process of the game, our defence, we’ll get better,” he told NBC News.
Meanwhile PNG’s women’s basketballers are out of the games after failing to secure any wins from their three matches.
