Waritzian School to expand into junior high

Waritzian Primary School in Markham district, Morobe province, is preparing to expand into junior high school education, giving children from the community and nearby villages a chance to continue their education closer to home.

The school is nearing completion of a new four-in-one classroom building, which is expected to accommodate Grade 9 students from 2027, subject to approval from education authorities.

For families in Waritzian and surrounding communities, the expansion could reduce the need for children to travel to other areas to continue their secondary education after completing primary school.

The Markham District Development Authority has provided K200,000 towards the classroom project.

Local carpenters and workers are carrying out the construction, allowing people from the community to use their skills while helping build facilities for the next generation of students.

If construction is completed and the required approvals are secured, Waritzian Primary School will begin its first Grade 9 intake in 2027.

The expansion is expected to provide more children in the area with access to secondary education closer to their homes, reducing the distance some families currently face when sending their children to school.
