RPNGC begins 2027 election prep

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary [RPNGC] has commenced early preparations for the 2027 National General Elections, focusing on resource allocation, manpower, and logistical requirements nationwide.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police [Logistics] Christopher Smith said Police headquarters is working closely with provincial police commands to identify operational needs, including vehicles, equipment, and personnel deployments.

Smith said early planning will allow the constabulary to better prepare for the massive nationwide operation and ensure officers on the ground are adequately supported.

“Logistics will play a critical role in election security, with reliable transport, communications equipment, and other operational resources needed to support police deployments throughout the country,” Smith said.

He said key lessons learned from previous national elections are shaping strategy for 2027, with an emphasis on coordination and operational readiness.

Smith said continued backing from the National Government and key development partners will be crucial to securing the necessary resources to maintain law and order throughout the election period.

Planning will continue over the coming months as provincial commands submit their requirements to headquarters.
