Turi slams lawyers misleading settlers

Assistant Commissioner of Police and NCD Central Commander Benjamin Turi has condemned lawyers representing illegal settlers, accusing them of knowingly pursuing unwinnable cases and misleading clients into believing they have a chance of success.

He said most of the disputed land is either state owned or held by private companies, yet settlers continue to occupy it while claiming legitimacy.

Turi accused certain lawyers of exploiting this ignorance for financial gain, dragging cases through the courts despite knowing they will fail.

“It is the lawyer’s responsibility to be honest and inform their clients that the land does not belong to them. Why fool poor settlers until they run out of money and end up homeless?” ACP Turi said.

He said such actions waste police resources, frustrate the courts, and prolong disputes that should have been resolved from the start.

Turi also referenced the recent directive from the National Broadcasting Corporation [NBC] instructing squatters to vacate NBC land, stressing that the land belongs to NBC and illegal occupants have no legal standing.

“My advice to the people illegally occupying NBC land is to simply move out. Don’t try to challenge this in court, you will be fooled like other settlers misled by certain lawyers. The land belongs to NBC, and police will move in to evict people forcefully once the court order is served,” he said.
