Rotary club donates desks to new Alotau primary school

The Rotary Club of Boroko has donated classroom desks to a newly established primary school in Milne Bay to help students study in a proper learning environment.

Gamadoudou Primary School, a newly established Kwato Agency school situated in the western part of Alotau, becomes the fourth school in the province to receive infrastructure support from the club over the past six months.

Rotary Club of Boroko member, past president, and district governor David Conn said as a former educator in Papua New Guinea, his objective remains ensuring students are comfortably seated to improve their learning experience.

"Our donation is normally 20 double desks, so that's 40 for a class, that gets a class off the floor onto a desk," Conn said.

"The main thing is just to get every kid in Papua New Guinea off the ground."

Conn said additional requests for desk allocations have been received from several remote and rural schools across the Esa'ala and Samarai-Murua districts.

He said the club hopes to extend similar support to those schools once preliminary logistics and arrangements are finalised.

"We've got requests… obviously we've still got to do Fagalulu if they ever get their act together. We've got requests from Woodlark that we're looking at. We've even had a request from Rossel," Conn said.
