Hotel Gilgal creates jobs, gives Mt Hagen a fresh look

A private investment is transforming the face of Mt Hagen City, with the opening of the multi-million kina Hotel Gilgal, creating more than 80 jobs while boosting confidence in the city's growing business and tourism sector.

The new hotel, located in the heart of Mt Hagen City, was officially opened this week after eight years of planning and construction by local businessman and Director of Israel Ministry Pastor Michael Onda.

Pastor Onda said the journey to complete the project was challenging, but his vision was to build an international-standard hotel that would provide quality accommodation, create employment and contribute to the development of Western Highlands Province.

"We took eight years to complete this project, and today we are proud to open its doors to the people of Papua New Guinea and our visitors," he said.

The hotel has already employed more than 80 people, providing new job opportunities for local men and women while supporting the province's growing hospitality industry.

Church, business and education leaders who attended the opening described the hotel as a milestone achievement, praising Pastor Onda for investing in his own province and proving that local Papua New Guineans can build world-class facilities.

Former Western Highlands Premier and Chief of the Moge Tribe of Hagen Central, Sir Lucas Roika, said Hotel Gilgal has given Mt Hagen City a new facelift and added value to Papua New Guinea's third city.

"Developments like Hotel Gilgal not only improve the city's appearance but also encourage investment, create employment and strengthen the local economy," said Sir Lucas.

Sir Lucas also appealed to the people of Mt Hagen to put aside tribal differences and protect business investments built by their own people.

He said destroying local businesses discourages development, while protecting them creates opportunities for future generations.

Hotel Gilgal offers executive suites, double and standard rooms, a swimming pool, a fully equipped gym, gaming facilities, three conference rooms, three commercial kitchens, a restaurant and a spacious car park designed to cater for business travellers, tourists and local events.

Pastor Onda also clarified the hotel's operating schedule, saying the business will operate from Sunday to Friday, closing at 6:10 p.m. on Fridays before reopening at 6:10 p.m. on Saturdays.

The opening of Hotel Gilgal marks another milestone for Mt Hagen City, showing how local investment is creating jobs, attracting visitors and helping transform the city into a modern commercial and tourism destination.
