Buimo CS clinic gets medical supplies

The Buimo Correctional Services clinic in Lae received a fresh supply of essential medicines and medical consumables yesterday, fulfilling a pledge made by the Nawaeb District Development Authority [DDA] during Easter this year.

Officer-in-charge Health Extension Officer [HEO] Derrick Wai collected the supplies on behalf of the facility, which will allow health workers to continue providing medical care to the surrounding community and correctional institution.

Wai expressed his gratitude to the DDA and urged other district authorities across the province to step up and support health facilities facing similar logistical constraints.

“The clinic is limited in its supplies due to the large population that relies on this facility,” Wai said.

“This small clinic caters for inmates from all 10 districts in Morobe, as well as neighbouring provinces.”

Nawaeb MP and DDA chairman Theo Pelgen said the intervention was part of a district-wide effort to ensure no community is left behind in basic service delivery.

“Inmates deserve equal treatment like everyone else, and they are included in the projects we are rolling out in the district,” Pelgen said.

“Access to essential medicines is a basic service that every family deserves. The district will continue investing in healthcare while working closely with the Morobe Provincial Health Authority and the National Department of Health to strengthen medicine supply chains.”

The distribution was carried out under the district-funded District Medicine Support Program, an initiative spearheaded by the DDA to cushion the impact of stockouts and delivery delays from the national level.

Under the initiative, the Nawaeb DDA directly procures and distributes emergency medical supplies to health centres and aid posts across the district to prevent life-saving drugs from running out.
