Ok Tedi Mining Limited has reassured stakeholders and the public that its operations remain normal and fully functional despite current dry weather and low river levels along the Fly River.

In a statement released, the company confirmed there has been no disruption to production activities at the Western Province mine site. All operations are reported as stable. Ok Tedi also said it has sufficient food stocks and essential supplies on site to support ongoing operations and workforce needs.

The company is proactively assessing and implementing alternative supply routes for fuel, food, and other critical materials. The measures are aimed at minimizing risks from reduced river levels, which are key for barge transport.

“Alternate routes are currently being reviewed for exporting of copper concentrate and bringing in fuel and other supplies in the event of an El Nino,” said Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kedi Ilimbit. “Unlike in the previous dry seasons we didn’t have those routes,” Mr Ilimbit added.

Ok Tedi reiterated its commitment to safe, reliable, and continuous operations while ensuring the wellbeing of employees and host communities. The company says it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.

The Fly River is Ok Tedi’s main transport link. Low levels during dry seasons have disrupted operations in the past, so the new alternate routes mark a shift in contingency planning for El Niño conditions.
