Public servants and residents at the Morobe Local Level Government [LLG] station in Huon Gulf will now benefit from a steady power supply following 25 years of operating in the dark.

The breakthrough comes after the Huon Gulf District Development Authority [DDA] Board funded a new K130,000 generator to restore power to the LLG headquarters.

Dona councillor Joe Gani said the prolonged lack of reliable electricity had severely hindered public service delivery, forcing officers to constantly travel to Lae for basic administrative tasks.

"With this new generator improving the power supply, public servants and government officers can now remain at the LLG station to do their jobs," Gani said. "This will also save local residents from traveling all the way to Lae to consult LLG officers."

The power restoration was part of a major rollout of five development projects officially launched in the area. The other projects included; two new police institutional houses to boost local security, a new banana boat and outboard motor for the Zaka Health Centre to assist with medical emergencies, the distribution of 20 bicycles to ward councillors across the LLG’s 20 wards to assist with community mobility and rollout of K200,000 in disaster relief assistance to communities hit by the March 2026 natural disasters.

A major technological highlight of the event was the introduction of a new CCTV Surveillance and Video Conferencing Connectivity Initiative. The project digitally links Morobe, Salamaua, and Wampar Rural LLGs directly with the Huon Gulf District Administration to strengthen communication, law and order coordination, and disaster response.

Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion, and Member for Huon Gulf, Jason Peter, stated at the launch that his administration remains focused on practical service delivery.

"Development is not about promises; it is about delivering results that directly improve the lives of our people," he said. "Today's launch demonstrates our commitment to strengthening law and order, improving healthcare, restoring essential services, and ensuring that development reaches every ward and village."

Peter assured the community that the DDA will continue to collaborate with local leaders, government agencies, churches, and communities to sustain development across the district.
