Border command concludes 10-day public safety training in Wewak
A 10-day Public Safety Training program for border provinces, facilitated by the RPNGC National Center of Excellence under Border Command, has successfully concluded in Wewak.
The training brought together police officers and law enforcement personnel for intensive sessions on community safety, crime prevention, and operational readiness.
The program, held last week, focused on strengthening officers’ capacity to respond to emerging threats, improve coordination across districts, and reinforce public confidence in law enforcement.
Participants engaged in classroom briefings, scenario-based exercises, and collaborative workshops designed to sharpen investigative skills and enhance discipline.
East Sepik Rural Police Commander Robert Pari commended the initiative, noting that such programs are vital for law and order in East Sepik and other border provinces, especially as communities continue to face challenges.
A total of 23 police officers attached to public safety units from Western, East Sepik, and West Sepik undertook the training.
Assistant Police Commissioner Border Command Steven Francis officiated at the graduation ceremony last Friday, encouraging officers to apply their newly acquired skills in their respective units and stations.
ACP Francis emphasized that as frontline officers, public safety personnel are the first point of contact in policing, making it essential to be well-versed in ethics, reporting, and case handling. Training topics covered included police ethics, professional reporting, and operational discipline.
