Personnel from the PNG Labor Mobility Unit interview team flew into Alotau today to a rowdy welcome by youth who had come out in numbers to meet them.

They were in Alotau at the beherst of Alotau District and will be conducting pre-screening for seasonal worker recruitment over the next two days.

Themed "Bridging Borders and Building Futures", it's a first for Alotau to be included, and the pre-screening interviews are the first stage of the Labor Mobility Process.

Over 60 youth in the Alotau District have been preparing for this for a few months, and excitement was in the air.

Labor Mobility they say is not just fruit picking, there's numerous other opportunities from working in aged-care, hospitality, aquaculture to abbotires, farms and more.

PNG has signed on with New Zealand's RSE Scheme and Australia's PALM Scheme.

They were quick to add its a long process to actually getting there and encouraged youth to be patient while keeping an open mind as they will be screened as individuals to find what best suits their experience and determination at the end of the day.

Pre-screening begins Thursday through to Friday.
