Auckland rising above in OFC Pro League
The conclusion of match day five in the OFC Pro League on Wednesday has Auckland FC sitting way above the rest with five wins from five games.
The gap between Auckland and the rest is getting wider each time, as coach Luke Casserly disclosed the team's aim to rise above the rest, having in mind that it won't be easy.
"We spoke before the game that today was a really good opportunity to kind of break away a little from the rest of the teams, but it doesn't really change our approach, Casserly said after their 4-0 win over Tahiti United," Casserly said.
Reviewing their two last matches with PNG Hekari FC and Tahiti United in Port Moresby, Casserly admitted one of their challenges in getting early goals.
"Teams have come out really strong and energetic against us early in the game making life very difficult for us especially in the first half in the games with Hekari and Tahiti."
"You don't know when those goals will come, but it always makes life a little bit easier if, when you do get early goals, that's for sure," Casserly added.
Regardless of Auckland's unbeaten run in the competition, the side is wary of all teams in the competition and anticipate stiff opposition from Solomon Kings FC this Saturday at 11.30am at the Santos National Football Stadium.
"I have been very suprised, every game we have had some difficult moments obviously fortunately we have been able to overcome those and get the results." Casserly said.
"We haven't had an easy game yet, the energy and application from all teams has been great and I don't think we are any different, I think we are learning from all these games as we go."
"I think Solomon Kings are one of the better teams with the ball and I know Ben Cahn and how his teams have played in the past, they will want to dictate and dominate games with the ball and they've got players that can do that."
