Five Local-Level Government (LLG) presidents and their 81 ward councilors from the Tari Pori District in Hela Province officially received their badges from Prime Minister James Marape last Friday.

PM Marape, also local MP for Tari Pori, convened the leaders at Hulukumaiya Haus in what is being described as a first-of-its-kind gathering for the district.

All elected ward councilors joined their LLG Presidents in a formal meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss leadership, unity, and development priorities.

The five LLG presidents are David Tale for Tebi LLG, Dickson Peter for Hayapuga LLG, Hegele Undialu for Tagali LLG, Charlie Apalu for Pori LLG and John Puni for the Tari Urban Authority.

PM Marape commended the successful conduct of the 2025 LLG elections, highlighting it as a major achievement for the district.

He paid special tribute to the spirit of leadership demonstrated by losing councilors and LLG presidents, who gracefully accepted defeat and pledged to work together with the newly elected leaders for the benefit of their communities.

PM Marape urged the LLG presidents and ward councilors to work closely with churches, community leaders, and other stakeholders to address ongoing issues affecting their communities.

He announced that K10,000 would be allocated to each ward to help address priority needs, while emphasizing that leaders must remain active and present in their communities.

“You must stay in your wards and carry out your mandated duties. The DDA will assist you where possible,” he said.
