Police in Milne Bay officially launched their festive season operations last Friday, deploying officers across the province to carry out their respective duties.

The operation aims to ensure that residents of Milne Bay and visiting members of the public are able to enjoy the festive season in peace and safety.

However, police confirmed that a serious highway robbery occurred on Monday along the North Coast. A Mutu Miles PMV was held up and later crashed, resulting in numerous injuries. There were also unconfirmed reports that a child may have died during the incident.

In response to this devastating event, police have announced they will increase their presence and operate at full capacity beginning this week.

Meanwhile, Provincial Police Commander Benjamin Kua has urged the public to reflect on the birth of Christ and to celebrate the festive season with compassion alongside loved ones and the wider community.

PPC Kua also made a special appeal to prison escapees from Giligili Gaol and the Alotau Police Station to surrender voluntarily and directly to him, for their own safety.

He thanked the public for their cooperation during the festive season, reminding everyone that law and order is everyone’s responsibility, and wished all residents a Merry Christmas.
